NASA News Conference on the Budget

What's in Obama's budget for NASA? Find out by calling into a news conference with NASA administrators at 11:30 AM CST - details here at this link, and below:

Following remarks, reporters will have an opportunity to ask questions. To dial into the news conference, news media representatives should call:
800-857-5728 or 1-630-395-0025 and use the pass code "NASA"
A limited number of phone lines are available, so people are encouraged to call early. Replays of the teleconference will be available approximately one hour after the call ends. To listen to a replay, call:
866-431-2903 or 203-369-0952

Your first clue that the news might not be great was when you didn't hear Obama mention NASA once in his State of the Union.

Since then, details have been leaked that the mission to the moon will be cancelled and much of the budget money will be given to private industry to provide transportation to and from the International Space Station.

My understanding is that last Friday was a day of wailing and gnashing of teeth at the Johnson Space Center, and that former NASA administrator Michael Griffin sent out an email to NASA employees basically blaming Obama for shredding the space program into pieces.

Of course billions of dollars have already been spent on rocket and spacecraft development that might or might not have been able to return to the moon, or replace the space shuttle. I'm sure rookie Republican congressman Pete Olson has been a huge help . . .you know, the way his district went heavily for McCain. We are left wondering if Democrat Nick Lampson could have helped with ensuring Obama felt the love for JSC, but we'll never know.

Ask the voters in Clear Lake why they voted against their best interests. It's a mystery, but it doesn't seem like rocket science.

UPDATE: NASA Watch is a good place to follow commentary on the space budget. The have a link to the NASA 2011 budget online.
