Jew Don Boney Radio Ad for Gene Locke - audio & transcript

Did you read the Chronicle article about Locke's negative radio attack on Peter Brown?
Click here for the audio. It's Jew Don Boney slamming Peter Brown and building up Locke. And below is the transcript. Be prepared to sing along (and laugh) to "Money, Money, Money, Money. MONEY!" After you are finished, tell me if you thinking, "$640/hour" and "$540,000 in attorneys fees"? Because I sure was! I think that "For the Love of Money" would make an excellent theme song for the Locke campaign.

Hello, I’m Jew Don Boney. Gene Locke is the right choice for our mayor.

He’s been with US all the way. There were those here in our own community who did not have the hope or belief to elect our FIRST African American mayor. Recently there were those who didn’t believe that Barack Obama could become our first African American president. Fortunately, most of us voted to be on the right side of history.

Peter Brown is spending millions of dollars in this mayor’s race because he can’t match Gene’s long time record of service. But our community is not for sale.

Before you vote, check the facts. Like the late congressman Mickey Leland, Locke was a leader in the civil rights movement while he was still in college. Gene Locke was one of the original founders of the SHAPE Community Center. Gene Locke rewrote the City of Houston’s affirmative action program which has helped earn hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts for African Americans, women and minority owned businesses.

Gene Locke is unbought and unbossed. We know because Gene didn’t just fight for us, he fought with us side by side. Vote to elect Gene Locke for mayor.

Political ad paid for by Gene Locke for Mayor.

Brown has fired back (rightly) with the following. If there is one thing I've been hearing all along from people who are long time activists in the African American community, it's "we don't know Gene Locke. He hasn't been in our community."

What are your thoughts? Who exactly considers Jew Don Boney enough of an opinion leader at this point in time to rise up and go vote for Locke? Does this play well with Republican voters in Clear Lake, Kingwood and the West Side? Is Locke playing fast and loose with the facts again (particularly about High Priced Lawyer Locke being with the African American community all along?)

Community Leaders Respond to Locke Attack Ad

In response to Locke’s attack on Peter Brown several community leaders respond, outraged at the Locke campaign’s false assertions.

Bishop James Dixon

“Some have suggested that I have received money for supporting Peter Brown for Mayor,” said Bishop James Dixon. “That is a lie. I'm supporting Peter Brown because he protects our schools and preserves our neighborhoods. Peter Brown is the only mayoral candidate who has consistently stood with the African American community. Now, myself and others are standing with him.”

Rep. Alma Allen

State Representative Alma Allen responded as well. “If Gene Locke is implying that Peter Brown bought his support in the African American community he needs to check his facts,” said Allen. “I am supporting Peter Brown for mayor because of the deep commitment Peter has to Houston's future. My support is not for sale.”

Pastor James Nash

Pastor James Nash went a step further and called on Locke to apologize for his advertisement. “Peter Brown has proven time and time again that he will be there for Houstonians – all Houstonians,” said Nash. “I call on Gene Locke to apologize to those of us he accused of being bought. Peter Brown's track record of service in Houston speaks for itself.”

Pastor David Punch

Pastor David Punch also called for an apology from Locke. “I am appalled and offended that Gene Locke would make such accusations,” said Punch. “Peter Brown is a man of integrity, he has been a genuine friend to our community. We support him because he has been there for us prior to this race for mayor. Locke should apologize to the ministers supporting Peter for such offensive accusations.”

Although the negative attacks have been flying on the campaign trail for several weeks, Locke’s radio spot - which began airing on Wednesday - is the first piece of negative paid advertising in the race for mayor.

"Our opponents have been going negative on the campaign trail for several weeks while Peter Brown has been offering real solutions to make Houston better – solutions that voters are clearly responding to,” said Brown’s campaign manager Lucinda Guinn. “It’s unfortunate that Gene Locke is taking his negative attacks to the next level. Peter Brown is proud to have the support of community leaders such as Rev. William Lawson, Dr. DZ Cofield and others who know Peter is working to improve Houston for everyone."

As a successful businessman, Peter Brown has the experience Houston needs in our next mayor. A U.S. Army Veteran born and raised in Houston, Peter built his own small business into a successful national firm. He knows how to make a business thrive, and he knows how to get results. As Mayor, he’ll use those skills to improve our city – protecting our tax dollars with a more effective, efficient and accountable approach to government. He has a Blueprint for an Even Better Houston, with real solutions to reduce crime, improve the quality of life, and attract more businesses and more jobs to Houston. As a City Council Member, Brown saved taxpayers millions by reworking city building plans, cutting government waste, and championing conservation efforts. Brown has the experience and vision to make Houston even better. We need a Mayor who will get results, and Peter Brown is that leader.

UPDATE: I see after I hit publish, that Olson at the Chron has an updated post, and he has the audio as well. This is way fun!
UPDATE #2: Kuff comments on the radio ad and takes us on a trip on the Way Back Machine, to help those of you in the MSM and elsewhere understand how Sylvester Turner lost an election while winning 81% of the African American vote. And from such data was born the pincer strategy.
