What Do My Dinner Plates and the Milky Way Have in Common?

They are looking quite a bit alike to me, except that they are very different. Here's the scoop on the Milky Way photo:

The Milky Way galaxy, as viewed from Earth, itself situated on one of the spiral arms of the galaxy, appears as a hazy band of white light in the night sky arching across the entire celestial sphere and originating from stars and other material that lie within the galactic plane.

Just give me some time and I'll get a big crack down the middle of one of the plates and they will look EXACTLY alike. I know I am right about this.
