Armando Walle Campaign Kick-Off

This past Wednesday, I attended Armando Walle's campaign kick-off at My DeeDee's Pie Shop (you gotta go there - 301 W. Gulf Bank Rd). Armando is running for State Representative in District 140. He's running against Craddick D, Kevin Bailey. The place was packed with family, friends and supporters. As Armando said, you know it's a great event when the parking lot is overflowing and the food runs out before the end - and there was a LOT of food! YUMMY pie and sandwiches.

Armando has a bio chock full of leadership, service and accomplishments. Most recently, he served on Congressman Gene Green's staff for six years, where he led many community projects that are in District 140.

In his announcement speech, Armando focused on how he is from the District. He was born and raised there, and graduated from MacArthur High School (which is where I started my teaching career! Go, Generals!). He and his wife Debbie (also from the District) recently bought a house in the District - it's where they want to raise their family.

Armando talked a lot about leadership and how it is time for a change in 140 - that the District has not been served well by Bailey who serves Tom Craddick rather than his constituents. The District needs Armando Walle who understands the issues facing the District - health care, education and public safety.

I couldn't be more impressed with both Armando and his wife Debbie.

Oh, I almost forgot. State Representative Ana Hernandez introduced Armando. I had the great pleasure of sitting at her table and having a nice long chat.

I sure hope that this Armando guy beats the living shit outta Kevin Baily. Although I am Anglo and reside in Austin, if I lived in Houston's District 140, I would vote to oust Bailey. He has been a House member since 1991 and has long out-lived any usefulness (and I use that term charitably) that he might have had over the last 16 years. Bailey is a chronic liar and has lied to me personally. He is precisely the type of slithery politician (notice that I didn't say "public servant") that makes me such a strong supporter of term limits on all public offices. While I know very little about Armando Walle, I sense that he has got to be an improvement over the worthless 16-year incumbent.
