Is Juan Garcia staying out of this race?

Sandra,

I haven't heard anything about him getting in.

Is this an encouragment to run or an endorsement of Rick Noriega in the Democratic Primary? I hear this is only an encouragment, as his fellow State Reps would be expected to do (surprising he didn't get a third of them to sign on)... but a endorsement? .... don't get fooled!

anon (Watts staffer),

Read the letter. It's a Draft Rick for Senate. Clearly they want him to take on Cornyn.

How about you don't get fooled or try to fool people with your silliness.

Well, isn't kinda understandable for Garcia to stay out? Didn't Watts raising lots of cash for his run last year? I don't know if he's staying away from endorsing or endorsing Watts, but I think that's understandable. If there are 49 names, then who are the 19 that aren't on here? I noticed Garcia, Sly Turner, Dawnna Dukes....who else?

Does anyone know the date of this letter? Was this during session or just right now?

I guess I'm just curious in what, if anything, Juan has said about a Noriega v. Watts primary. He'll likely have a Republican challenger so he may be defending his seat and campaigning on his own behalf.

Here's something from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (7/1) that gives an update on what is possibly ahead for Juan Garcia:

Seaman hire provides signal of possible rematch

Former State Rep. Gene Seaman has hired the Austin-based Patriot Group, a conservative political consulting firm with an all-Republican client list, further indicating that he may challenge Democrat Rep. Juan Garcia, who beat him last fall.

Seaman's former campaign consultant Mac McCall, who was independent during Seaman's last race, is now an associate with the Patriot Group.

Garcia just found where the bathrooms are in the state capitol. He is doing good there. He has no chance of moving up yet.

Yet.

That is kinda rude towards Garcia. You find the bathrooms on the first day and he is a Harvard grad. I think he has a better handle on the Lege than you think J. Coby

nova -
It seems to also be missing Garnet Coleman, Mark Strama, Marc Veasey, Norma Chavez, Abel Herrero, Yvonne Gonzales Toureilles, Kino Flores, Veronica Gonzales, Terri Hodge, Helen Giddings, Ruth Jones McClendon, Yvonne Davis, Barbara Mallory Caraway, Vyonne Davis, Joe Farias, Jose Menendez, Scott Hochberg, along with your Garcia, Turner and Dukes.
Of course it isnt alphabetized or in order of district, so it is hard to double check name.

And to John Coby, you should really try to stop acting like you know better than everyone else -- you make yourself look like a moron. No one was talking about Garcia moving up right now and trying to run for US Senate. The discussion is on whether or not he plans on making an endorsement or campaigning for a particular candidate. Whether he will throw his opinion in or stay out. geez.

I took John's comment as simply that Garcia is new (and great) and he needs to continue to get his feet wet before he moves on to higher office. Although many of us have high hopes for him in that regard.

There has definitely been buzz for several months as to whether Garcia will get in the race for U.S. Senate, so I thought that was what Sandra was asking.

thanks Muse!

Geez you guys. Get a grip. Only meant he is new to the political scene and is not going to move up....yet....

And shouldn't. He is good in Austin. He needs to stay.

Let's all grow up a bit.

I know I came in late but how can you spread that rumor. He's not planning to get into the senate race. And obviously he did not sign that letter. But my state rep did. Sollie Ortiz Jr.And guess what that is going to get more votes for Watts.

OK, I am passing out chill pills.

Dude, I didn't spread a rumor. Let me repeat: There WAS buzz about Garcia getting in the race. I heard it, it was on blogs, etc.

Whatever. I never took it super seriously other than to think, "you know what, Garcia is headed for great things."

Re: Watts. Listen. I had a Watts staffer go off today on supposed ugliness from the Noriega side. That make me chuckle as all I've seen are hyper Watts folks comment here - many of those comments have gone unpublished (for example, the one where Rick Noriega was called a name.)

Is this really necessary? My recommendation to the Watts folks: calm down. Be nice. It's only June. Why go so negative? What's the big fear?

I'm a Noriega supporter. I'm not tearing down your guy. Go forth and win people over.
