Lampson's Senate Intentions Are Out In The Open
So, my congressman, that I worked so hard to elect is seriously considering a run at John Cornyn. No more "he said, she said" and "is he in or out."
Does this mean the arm twisting to keep other candidates out gets even aggressive?
Is Nick Lampson throwing TX-22 under the bus? Sure feels like it.
Interesting things from the Chron article:
- Mike Lykes has left his role as Lampson's chief of staff and is now his campaign finance director (this was expected; I like Mike)
- Rove has decided Lampson is the #1 House target in 2008, guaranteeing boatloads of money being thrown at his Republican opponent in 22. (a. duh, b. the bus tires - ouch)
- "You're kidding," Bill Miller, an Austin political consultant who works with Democrats and Republicans, said when told of a possible Lampson bid. "If Lampson is known by 5 percent of the people in the state, I'd be shocked." (which is my problem with this whole concept - TX-22 goes back to red, we do not knock off Cornyn)
All of this aside, I continue to send get well wishes to my congressman.

So who do you like as the next Democrat to serve TX-22, muse?
Gordon Quan.
I am The Decider!
You gotta love Muse! I was for Gordon from the beginning. (Excuse me sounding like Obama--ha ha ha!)
Has there been some arm-twisting trying to keep others out of this race already? That's pretty interesting - who do you see making this race?
nova,
Indeed there has been arm twisting. Mostly having to do with money. Kinda like "we have all the money for this thing and you don't - and won't".
Not sure who will jump in, but I hope Rick Noriega is seriously considering it.
muse -
I could not agree more w/ your wanting Rep. Noriega to jump in, that would be incredible.
Back to the twisting of arms, it is more to do w/ Dem donors that are being told not to back a potential candidate, rather than potential candidates being told to stay out of it? I guess that would make more sense, especially considering that one of the people being courted has gobs of money.
Do you have any insight as to which direction Rep. Noriega might be leaning? I believe he is a candidate that many in this state could see themselves supporting, even some that don't usually vote our way.
Potential candidates are being told to stay out of it because they won't get the money from the big donors. Apparently that cash is being saved for the "chosen one". Pushy people are making phone calls trying to control the game.
Noriega - my guess is 50-50.
I second Gordon. The question is will his wife let him.
