Fort Bend GOP Form Circular Firing Squad And Shoot To Kill

Pass the popcorn. The right wing social conservatives and the moderate conservatives in Fort Bend County are at it again, as the fall out from the Lincoln Day Dinner Disaster continues.

Bob Dunn has the full story and the comment thread is definitely worth a read. Here's a bit of the public display of hostility:

I keep hearing that a group of moderates Republicans are in the process of forming an alternate Republican party because they know that this group who are in control now will never give up and cooperate with Gillen. They believe that the reason there is so much upset in the party is because Dean Hrbacek would do anything to ruin Dave Wallace’s chances of winning in District 22, even partnering with the Christian right.

If the big money people leave the Republican party and start a “rump” group, the party as it is now will die a slow death, because most of the people left will not donate money.

This happened in Houston several years ago when Betsy Lake left the Republican party and started another one.

It’s already happened to the state party. The people who usually donate don’t give to the state party anymore because it is so taken over by the radical right.

The state party is broke! That’s why they didn’t give Shelley Sukula Gibbs the two million they promised. They didn’t have it.

They ran me off from the Republican party because I dared criticize Tom DeLay.
I never thought I would say this and my poor ol’ grand dad is probably rolling over in his grave, but I will never give another dime to the Republican party that is in power now.
And not only did I used to give money, I gave good publicity and virtually ignored the Democrats.

That’s all changed. And it is directly because of Dean Hrbacek, the Christian radical right (which isn’t) and their fellow travellers.

I will actively support any new group both with money and publicity.

Hmmmm…

A new, “alternate GOP” in Fort Bend County being formed by “moderate Republicans” because “this group who are in control now will never give up and cooperate with Gillen”. Interesting.

I suppose that when we parse Bev’s assertion out, what we are hearing comes down to this — “A group that represents the minority of Fort Bend County Republican voters will form an alternate GOP organization because they cannot defeat the current crop of GOP precinct chairs at the polls.”

I’ve got a better idea for you, Bev — why don’t you and your “moderate Republican” confreres put up moderate Republican candidates for precinct chair in the precincts of all those who you claim will “never give up and cooperate with Gillen”? You know — beat them at the polls, fair and square.

Instead, it appears you are out to hijack the name of the Fort Bend County GOP, just like Gillen hijacked the fundraiser and the FBGOP email list. I bet you even have a super-dooper secret list of leaders of this alternate organization that you will reveal at some future date — if you feel like it when that day comes.

Interestingly enough, bev, the organization you are so willing to organize and support will have only one impact upon the politics of Fort Bend County — the election of Democrats. And i think that says all that needs to be said about you, the supporters of this organization you are so supportive of, and Mr. Gillen.

I don’t believe I said anything about organizing an “alternate” party. I said I would support one.

The reason we can’t get moderate Republicans to run for precinct chairs is they take one look at the people currently involved and their actions and say, “Thanks, but no thanks.”

Nobody wants to put up with the stuff that’s going on in executive meetings now. Three chairs for the next Lincoln Dinner (if it ever happens), 20 new members of the finance committee?

The Democrats don’t even have to work. The Republicans will do their work for them.

I liked it better when Eric ran the show with a smooth, albeit iron, hand. He did all the work and only called on us for help in getting voters to the polls and getting voters to vote Republican. No fuss, no muss. We recruited many “moderate” precinct chairs who just won’t put up with the stuff that’s going on now. They lost interest when they saw the personal attacks that occurred.

Oh my God how did I miss that? Greg Aydt and Bev Carter in fisticuffs on FBN! Maybe it's because I mowed my lawn and went shopping?

Bev is my favorite Republicrat. Or is it Demopublican? I can't yet figure it out. She is good people and takes people like Aydt, rhymes with hate, and reduces them to quivering masses of protein.

Go Bev!

Yeah, I felt this deserved wider play. :)

Isnt that Rhymes with Phat?

To think that the republican party is resorting to trial lawyers, abusing our court system instead of not being sue happy.

This is sort of like Chris Elam's post last week, except with, you know, links and facts.

Perry, you are funny. I'm having to wipe a tear from eye over that. You are so right.
