The Swiftboating Of Rick Perry
I was wondering why this hue and cry over the HPV vaccine, with all of the half-truths and misinformation that amount to lies, seemed so very familiar. I keep saying that the groups that are spreading this are after one thing - a win. They are social conservatives that have their own perverse reasons for wanting to deny access to a life saving cancer vaccine to the poor and those without health insurance. They keep talking about parental choice over health care, but what they are doing is denying choice to the uninsured, the uninformed and others without access to health care.
It amounts to swiftboating - mounting a campaign of misinformation to see if they can fool enough people to get their way. How they get the win doesn't matter. It's all about winning.
You can call it the swiftboating of the HPV vaccine, but in the following case it is the swiftboating of Rick Perry - by his own party. The Republicans have drawn their blunt table knives and are going after one of their own, Governor 39%. Jared Woodfill, Lord High Priest of the Harris County Republican Party sent out the following email. It's so powerful and scary, I'm sure Perry is donning a flak jacket to protect himself from the onslaught of the incoming marshmallows Woodfill is throwing at him.
Rescind HPV Executive Order

Chairman, Harris County Republican Party

Did Jared just lose a couple of hundred pounds at Subway?
Eat Fresh!
perry is swiftboating the people of texas. the light switch has been flipped on and he's been caught in bed with merck. if dear old dad perry really wanted to help protect our children against cancer, he'd wage war against smoking, protecting our children from the dangers of lung cancer and the respitory damage of second hand smoke. but alas, dad is also in bed with the tobacco companies. neither does perry care if our children have clean air or water, as he's also in bed with big bidness interests in this good ol' boy great state. wow, perry really sleeps around, perhaps HE should be the first in line for the shot, to protect people from getting cancer from him. ps: it's great when right wingers, lefties, moderates, conservatives and christian coalitions ALL find common ground on this issue, not to mention MOST doctors. jared thanks for the contact info, i'll be calling big daddy up right now to tell him abstinence is the best policy, and his promiscuous wiley ways are harming our children and our state.
I can only conclude that Governor Perry (39%) is so ticked at the evangelicals and rednecks who didn't vote for him that he decided to go ahead and make his vaccination decision as a back 'atcha. What does he have to lose?
