State Rep. John Davis Has Gas. Lots Of Gas.

I've looked over John Davis' October Texas Ethics Commission (TEC) filing very thoroughly and I found something interesting. Seeing that he reported buying gas eight times on July 3rd got me to thinking. How many times did he buy gas during the 13-week reporting period (July, August, September)?

Would you believe John Davis bought gas 26 times with
campaign cash over 13 weeks?

Yeah. Twice a week. It's all there. See for yourself.

The total dollar amount for the gas for the reporting period was $1845. An average of $71 per gas station visit.

Which makes $142 in gas per week.

I've seen his truck. It's just a regular pick up truck. And, remember, the legislature was not in session during those three months. Some of those gas stations were in the Texas Hill Country (Granite Shoals, Cedar Creek, Brady).

I'm not even including the $696 at the Chevron on Bee Caves Road in Austin on August 1st. I'm just talking about gas at gas stations.

I'm just saying this seems strange.

Back in days gone by, when I had a "company car" there was lots of discourse about what was a company expense vs. a personal expense. More often than not, individuals just ignored the whole thing by listing all expenses and mileage as "company business".

It was easier, and nobody checked anyway.

Same seems to be true here. Except here, they are accountable to taxpayers and these clowns need to get with that fact.

Especially in an election year.

Maybe he had to campaign at the antique malls scattered around over there. I think I remember hearing about the "Antiques, Old Lace, and Davis" event.

Oh that's right; he doesn't campaign. And the used furniture was that mention of him in Texas Monthly.

Does he have any constituents that needed visiting down in those bee caves? Could he have conducted a listening tour at Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch, with the bats and the rhinos and the zebras?

Maybe he held an open house from an innertube on the Comal. That wouldn't require so much gasoline, though.

*shrug*

Holy smokin' tailpipe!

We're fighting the Iraq war just to keep Davis on the road. $696 at a gas station? Is there a time stamp on that? That's the worst case of munchies I've ever seen. Did he buy out the entire grocery section on a Tuesday night?

I'm working on a "Role of the Local Blog" post, and so I tried to get a screenshot of the KHOU news report video, but the embedded player won't allow you to capture the image.

But I did get this screen capture if you ever want to use it:

And if anybody wants to read the story and see the video that ran on the nightly news, you can follow this link:

I think he has had no one watching him that he thought he could get away with it.

So he is using campaign cash for personal expenses. I would bet he bought the mattress here in Houston for himself. And the gas for his work and personal use.

And everytime he takes his family out, he lists it as an expense.

This isnt right.
