I am happy to announce that Sherrie Matula, running for State Representative in HD-129, has been endorsed by Parent PAC. The official annoucement is not until Thursday, but I got the OK to leak the news today.
Parent PAC is a political action committee consistenting of parents, grandparents and parents-to-be who believe that the current Texas Legislature shortchanges students by failing to adequately fund public schools. They endorse candidates who will consistently vote in the best interest of children. Their endorsements are based on a candidate's positions on school finance, vouchers, excessive testing, local control and government mandates.
They couldn't have chosen a better candidate to endorse than Sherrie Matula. Sherrie taught in public schools for 25 years (Clear Creek ISD and Pasadena ISD), served on the Clear Creek ISD school board for two terms, has been very involved with teacher professional organizations and has been a long time activist for community and education issues.
I've spent many years in education at many different levels and in different types of educational institutions. I have never met a classroom teacher that has the depth and breadth of knowledge that Sherrie has in effective teaching practices as well as education policy and legislation. She's simply phenomenal and the whole state will benefit from having her in the Texas legislature. We have officially adopted her in Fort Bend as the legislative candidate we most want to see in Austin. We've donated our time and money to her campaign. We've Had Enough of legislators who have gone from "do-nothing" to doing harm to our educational system in Texas.
To hear from Sherrie, listen to an interview with Kuffner here and read an e-interview with Sherrie at Capitol Annex.
