Fort Bend Democrats enjoyed an absolutely marvelous time at the Harris County Democrats' Johnson Rayburn dinner last night. Highlights for me included the video tribute to Ann Richards, introduction of my favorite candidates (Sherrie Matula! Farhan Shamsi!), Russ Feingold's speech and Chris Bell's even more funny than usual speech.
We all cheered for Feingold even before he got started. Gosh, how could we help but give that guy a bunch of standing ovations? He voted against the war in Iraq and against the Patriot Act. All of his concerns are my concerns - the increasing power of the executive grant (he says that is one of the intentional goals of the Bush administration), education, health care, the economy . . . He just went on from there to include every single hot button issue that makes me mad at this Republican administration.

Chris Bell? Fantastic. I'm one of the original Chris Bell fans ("cough" mcblogger) and even I was more impressed than usual with Chris. Houston loves this guy and we showed him the love. He's also not afraid to talk about important issues that the Republicans are either ignoring or spinning in a nonsensical way - health care, education and stem cell research to name a few.
Hank Gilbert was hilarous as the auctioneer. Remind me not to cough, smile, nod or answer any of his questions while he is auctioneering. I could get myself in $2000 worth of trouble. He told us we needed to get off of our ass, so that we can put the Republicans on their ass in November! No problem, Hank!

Best of all, I enjoyed sharing a table with my Fort Bend Democrats friends. We all stood up and cheered over all of the same issues. We really are united in our beliefs about what is right for America and we have all
Had Enough. We even giggled over the same humorous parts (er, maybe they weren't supposed to be humorous?) of some of the presentations. I wouldn't advise crossing this band of Democrats. We are single minded in our dedication to turn Fort Bend blue. We are all very loyal to each other and we don't suffer fools gladly.
Hal has a complete account of our good time, and
Stace also gives a great report! I counted five bloggers at this event and I was happy to run into Stace right at the end.
