Where Is The Love For The TX-22 Challengers?
$200,000
The news of last quarter's FEC filings is trickling out and it looks like three of the seven dwarfs - the ones I refer to collectively as "Dopey" - raised a little over $200K, AS A GROUP. David Wallace is not doing such a good job building credibility and trust among the voters in TX-22. First, he said he had raised $1 million. Then, in his super slick - slippery, some would say - mailers, where he compared himself to Ronald Reagan (was it because of the hair?), he claimed he raised $200K in real money and $800K in Chuck E. Cheese tokens. Well, now he is down to $173K. Turns out he loaned the other $30K to his campaign so that his numbers would look good. Our Mayor does take pride in looking good. He has $158K cash on hand, so I guess we know how much the radio attack ads cost.
What about Dopey #2 and Dopey #3?
Sekula-Gibbs, she's raised $44K and has $30K cash on hand. And, here I thought she was a real candidate (when she wasn't playing Councilwoman Barbie).
Talton? The darling of the far right wingnut precinct chairs? He's raised zero. Oh, there is the $800 he loaned to his campaign. And, he has spent a whole $50 of it. I guess on the cookies. That's it. That's really . . . pathetic. No wonder he said this recently, "That's the problem with this kind of campaign, because you don't know when the end date is, you can't plan any type of campaign." Exactly. You can't plan any type of campaign if you don't have real money OR Chuck E. Cheese tokens. The man has got neither.
Oh, and a reminder about Nick Lampson, "the challenger" in this race. Someone left a great comment on my blog recently saying that it seems like everyone is treating Lampson like the incumbent at this point. I mean, he is the one with:
$609,000 raised in the second quarter
$3 million raised total
$2 million cash on hand
$3 million raised total
$2 million cash on hand
Looks like there's no DeLaying Nick Lampson from being the frontrunner in this race. No matter who is the eventual opponent.
Thanks to Kuffner for the links to the FEC reports!
Vince tells me Wallace took money from Halliburton.

Charlie Cook still has TX-22 as 'likely Republican'. I think someone needs to take his Kool-Aid away from him.
Yeah, I SAW THAT. It totally makes me doubt all of his other rankings.
