GOP attorney admits, "DeLay means the Democrats Win."

Hey, James Bopp! Freudian slip, dude? Bopp, Tina Benkiser's attorney, said today in New Orleans, "Delay — that's a small `d' delay — means the Democrats win. Even if their claims are completely specious."

Indeed, DeLay means the Democrats win. Tom figured out, maybe all by himself, maybe with the expert help of wife Christine (who apparently cannot wait for him to move the heck out of Sugar Land and into his condo in Virginia for good) or maybe with some encouraging bucks waved around by Bob Perry tempting him away from his campaign and towards his legal defense fund, that he had no chance on a hot day in November or a cold day in hell to beat Nick Lampson for the 22nd Congressional District seat.

From Paul Burka, who was at the Fifth Circuit Court today, we get this moment of hilarity:

I attended the oral arguments, and I thought the Democrats had the much the better of the give and take. Counsel for the RPT had barely completed his first statement -- "Election law should be construed to give voters the greatest possible choice" -- when one of the three judges interrupted: "What do we do with the constitutional provision known as the 'when elected' clause?" I'm sure the Ds lawyers wanted to start doing backflips at this moment. This clause is the basis for their argument that DeLay is not ineligible.

The general consensus from the "I was there" crowd, is that the Democrats did indeed kick ass in New Orleans today. Cris Feldman and Chad Dunn. My heroes.

From Nick Lampson, I got exactly what I expected. It's what he has been saying all along. All during this circus side show:

“I woke up yesterday and went to work campaigning to cut our deficits and debt, secure our ports and borders, and promote a strong NASA,” Lampson said in a statement. “Regardless of the outcome of this legal process, I will wake up tomorrow and do the same thing—campaign on the issues that matter to the people of this district. Voters will respond, and I will win this race in November. It doesn’t matter who ends up on the ballot.”

And his devoted volunteers feel the same way! We are out there walking the blocks, calling on the phone and giving him our support in whatever way we can, because we know he will restore integrity back to our congressional district.
