Just Two More Days of DeLay
Just two more days until Tom DeLay resigns as my congressman on June 9th, 2006. I'll be brief. I'm thrilled. No need to wax on an on. This is a great moment for citizens in Sugar Land, all of TX-22 and for our country to run him out of office. Some favorite memories:
When he said (outloud and not just in his head, which I'm sure he had a million times), "I am the federal government." How blatant. It's good to have that sort of thing on the record.
When, in 2004, I saw my first Tom DeLay campaign commercials on TV. Wow. He'd never even had to campaign in our district before. But because of the work all of the Morrison volunteers did (me included), we forced him to run in the district for the first time. I remember that first commercial. My kids called me in from the back of the house to see it. A great day. I knew we had him on the run.
I have a lot of positive memories of working with tremendously passionate and talented people on the Morrison campaign and the Lampson campaign who did a whole lot of things to put pressure on DeLay to make things very difficult for him. I'm proud of all the work we did and I know he wouldn't be leaving in two days if it wasn't for all of the hours we all put in. A round of applause to all of us. We'll be celebrating together Friday in Fort Worth!
And, then, we'll get back to our district and get back to work to get Nick Lampson elected. The buzz is that The Chosen One could be selected as early as June 30.
