with his message of "the war on terror." Or, as he said, "the war on terrah". I went to the Memorial Day celebration at Sugar Land Town Square this morning. My understanding was that Mayor David Wallace was going to speak. Surprise! Tom DeLay was the keynote. He talked about how this war was different than other wars and how it was a war on ideology and a war on Islamic funda-, fundamenalal -. He had to get a glass of water and never did get out "Islamic fundamentalism." Pretty hilarious. I actuallly thought his message was totally inappropriate for Memorial Day. I thought we were there to honor American military who had given their lives in service to our country, not hear justification for why we are in Iraq (forever). Here he is onstage to the far left in the tan suit. (Ha! Far left.)

Who is that in the pink on the right? Hint: a Houston City Council member. What is a Houston City Council member doing at our Sugar Land event? Everyone else on stage was a Fort Bend County or Sugar Land City elected official or a member of the religious community. Why, it's Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, candidate for Congress in TX-22! She created a buzz in the crowd as to why in the world she was on stage. During the final prayer, with every head bowed on stage, she had her head up and eyes open and she was scanning the crowd. For precinct chairs?
There were other candidates for TX-22 in the crowd. I was there with my candidate, Nick Lampson. He was hanging back, observing, doing a little media, saying hello to friends in the crowd. At the end, the Republican candidates at the event swarmed to him. Like a magnet. Talton, Howard, Sekula-Gibbs, Wallace. They all wanted to shake Lampson's hand and say hello. Bob Smither, the Libertarian candidate also came up and talked to Nick. Here is some of that. Charlie Howard is talking to Nick:

Again, we see Sekula-Gibbs in the, um, pink outfit.
Here's Nick Lampson talking with a soldier:
Juanita has some choice words about Tom DeLay's appearance at this event on her site.
NOTHING should surprise me by now out here on the Fort Bend side of TX-22.
Since, apparently, it is tradition for our Congressman to speak at this event, I look forward to next year and Nick Lampson speaking to us at the fifth annual Sugar Land Memorial Day Celebration.

What the HELL is Shelley Sekula-Rodriguez-Gibbs wearing?
She needs a new campaign manager if he let her out of the house wearing that. And a new wardrobe.
DeLay. Who is he to talk about honor on Memorial Day when he is quitting in just 10 days.
They certainly didn't advertize that DeLay was going to be the keynote speaker. They aren't so proud of him anymore.
Re: Shelley Sekula Keeton Rylander --- I think she wants to be Congresswoman Barbie.
Here's a great video that's just out that'll get your blood pumping. It's jerky the first time but plays straight through the second. It was produced by Peace Takes Courage:

See if you can spot Tom DeLay's cameo mugshot.

GREAT video. Yes, it does make my blood boil!
I hadn't seen this. Thanks.
Shelley wants to be Congresswoman Barbie - THAT cracks me up! Funniest thing I've heard in a long while.
Don't you have to wear leg wraps to keep the mosquitoes from biting? And I heard that the bugs don't like pink.
I think Shelley was taken care of just fine on bugs with the Bug Man Tom DeLay just down the row from her.
